But only if they aren’t totally malicious liars. Phil Hendrie at least has the excuse of being dropped on his head by his parents, illegal drug addiction, and a career of talking to himself. Not sure what sent Bob/Randal to the loony bin.
Confabulation is associated with several characteristics:
- Typically verbal statements but can also be non-verbal gestures or actions. (An apparently never-ending stream of both of these)
- Can include autobiographical and non-personal information, such as historical facts, fairytales, or other aspects of semantic memory. (Their whole theory is a fairytale)
- The account can be fantastic or coherent. (Totally incoherent in this case)
- Both the premise and the details of the account can be false. (Almost totally false in every regard)
- The account is usually drawn from the patient’s memory of actual experiences, including past and current thoughts. (Somebody clearly bothered them but it was not me)
- The patient is unaware of the accounts’ distortions or inappropriateness, and is not concerned when errors are pointed out. (Numerous examples of this)
- There is no hidden motivation behind the account. (Perhaps insanity is not a motivation and is more a condition)
- The patient’s personality structure may play a role in their readiness to confabulate. (Made talking to himself a career and an admitted junkie)
And now a short film. The narrator might as well be Phil and, unfortunately, I may some day be the victim of his psychopathy.
And now a song dedicated to Phil Hendrie and Bob/Randal
You don’t have to be afraid
You don’t even have to be brave
Living in a gilded cage
The only risk is that you’ll go
Go, Go
Insane
I’m not your enemy. Check the mirror for that.
