A remake of the controversial ’90s action game Postal will launch for Windows and Mac platforms via Steam this spring, developer Running With Scissors announced.
This year will also mark Postal‘s long-awaited console debut, as a PlayStation 4 port of Postal Redux will surface shortly after its PC launch.

Postal attracted a fair share of controversy upon its initial launch in 1997 with overhead-view, run-and-gun gameplay that encouraged the slaughter of armed enemies and innocent bystanders alike. In Postal, players wander large urban environments in search of victims, leaving a path of destruction and gore in their wake.
Creator Running With Scissors pledges that Postal Redux will “maintain the elements that made the original Postal world-renowned,” and promises that the original game’s “grim art style, frightening ambience, the omnipresent ‘demonic voice’ and the marching band will be faithfully recreated in this modern day take on a title which became a symbol for free speech in gaming.”
“Even with all the noise surrounding Postal, gamers focused on the experience, playing the game by the millions, giving it great user reviews and helping us not only survive, but flourish,” Running With Scissors founder Vince Desi stated. “Postal Redux is a love letter to our fans.”
Postal was the start of an ongoing series for Running With Scissors. A 2003 sequel, Postal 2, adopted a less serious tone and more conventional gameplay objectives, and 2011’s Postal 3 continued the trend with a number of increasingly outlandish third-person shooter sequences.
The Postal series saw a film adaptation in 2007 from The House of the Dead and Alone in the Dark director Uwe Boll. The film sought to ape the purposefully offensive content featured throughout its inspiration, but ultimately failed to make an impact with critics or at the box office.
Postal Redux will launch digitally for PC, Mac, and Steam OS platforms this spring. Running With Scissors notes that the PlayStation 4 version of Postal Redux will premiere “later in the year.”
