GAD’s 5-Piece Honeycomb Strat Guitar

large_preview_GAD-3D-Printed-Guitar-Top-

I found this small honeycombed Strat body somewhere and can’t remember where I found it, so if it’s yours PLEASE let me know (with proof) so I can give you credit!

These files accompany my article where I outline the entire process of printing a guitar. You can find that article here: https://www.gad.net/Blog/2020/04/05/3d-printed-guitar/

Anyway, I took the original model which wouldn’t fit in my printer and cut it up into five pieces so that it would. My printer is an Ultimaker S5 so it’s a bit larger than a normal home machine, but I encourage you to cut it up some more so that it fits in yours!

The guitar absolutely plays and my builds absolutely work when plugged into an amp! In order to finish the guitar you will need, in addition to the model:

Neck & Neck Plate

Tuners

Pickups

Electronics

Pick Guard (if loaded, ignore previous two)

Strap Buttons

Hardened Bridge Screws

Neck Screws

Bridge w/springs, claw, and screws

The original model was not designed to be a functioning guitar so I had to modify it a bit (see my blog). Some of the pick guard screws still don’t line up right so I just drilled them since they’re under so little stress. As you can see in the neck plate photo, that’s not right either, but it’s a result of the original model not being quite right. It works fine – it’s just ugly and you can feel it a bit while playing up on the high frets.

The little guitar in the picture is the same model with all axis at 50% and the guard and neck 3D printed at a similar scale.

The pickup covers and knobs are from Thingiverse, too.

The colors for the different pieces were picked by my daughter!
