Hearthstone and Refunds: A Cautionary Tale After Losing More Than 760 Packs

TLDR: Processed a refund through apple for a small purchase at the direction of Blizzard CS. Got my account banned for it and lost access to all my other purchases.

I’m a long time hearthstone player who returned to the game after an extended break (2020-2022). I bought most of the returning player content offered through the store and tried Battlegrounds for the first time which I thought was a fun break from Standard.

I also bought the “Battlegrounds Perk” pack that was offered on the 29th of August. I didn’t realize that it was good for about a day or so at that point (no info in game or store). When I found the patch notes for the update I reached out to Blizzard CS through the ticket system about my confusion and the lack of information that this purchase was only going to last for a day. The Game Master was incredibly helpful and while he could not refund the purchase he told me that I would have no issues doing it through Apple.

I submitted for a refund and bought the new battle pass as I really did enjoy the mode. Unfortunately as soon as I received the refund notice from Apple I lost the ability to log in and received a ban for “TOS Violations” for performing a “Chargeback”. My tickets to Blizzard are going unanswered, Blizzard CS on twitter asked me to pound sand, and my ban won’t allow me to advocate via live chat.

Per PityTracker I’ve gone through more than 760 packs over the years and this doesn’t cover nearly all of the stuff I’ve bought or enjoyed. It’s a bit of a gut punch to lose the account and I just wanted to share it here in case anyone else had thoughts of doing any refunds. Doing business with Blizzard, or making any digital purchases, comes with a risk that you’ll be locked out of your ability to enjoy those purchases without warning or cause.

My very pitiful Pity Tracker data, I sucked at drawing legendaries.
