The new Star Wars book, Ronin by Emma Candon, tells us a whole lot more about the Sith bandit who first appeared in the Star Wars: Visions short, The Duel. She has a striking design, a killer lightsaber, and impeccable style. But who was she?

Her name was Koura, and she was obviously a member of the Sith Order who split away from the Jedi. Originally led by the Ronin himself, the Sith no longer wanted to serve the Jedi or the feudal lords that controlled them. So they broke away and tried to reshape the galaxy the way they wanted it. But the Ronin had a change of heart after seeing the cycles of violence his own actions would cause. And he leaned into even more violence by betraying and murdering as many of his Sith followers as he could. He murdered Koura’s master in front of her, who was able to get her into an escape pod to safety. For the next twenty years Koura continued following Sith teachings, eventually ruling over the group of bandits we see in The Duel. She was cut down by the very man who killed her master and became a Sith hunter, but her story did not end there, thanks to the sorcery of a Sith witch, but I’ll save that for another time…
