Netflix’s Full House reboot adds DJ’s long lost love, Steve

Netflix’s Full House reboot (Fuller House, of course) just keeps getting, well, fuller. Yet another actor who starred in the original sitcom has signed on for the spin-off/sequel. Scott Weinger, who you may know better as DJ’s first love, Steve, has announced that he’s joining the project.

Steve first showed up in season five of Full House as the boyfriend of the oldest Tanner daughter, DJ. It didn’t take long for him to make himself at home and raid the fridge at every opportunity, much to the annoyance of the Tanner patriarch, Danny. Nonetheless, DJ kept Steve around awhile, until she finally dumped him in season 7. He was still nice enough to show up in the series finale to take her to prom after her date bailed, though. What a guy.

In Fuller House, DJ (played by Candice Cameron-Bure) ends up in a tragic situation eerily similar to her father’s in the original sitcom: She’s just lost her spouse and is now a single parent to two (soon-to-be three) kids. Luckily for her, best friend Kimmy (Andrea Barber) and younger sister Stephanie (Jodie Sweetin) are willing to move in with her to help her adjust. How Steve will fit into the puzzle is anybody’s guess at this point. Perhaps he and DJ will eventually rekindle the flame?

Weinger tweeted the news of his involvement with Fuller House Thursday, showing his script from the first table read. Apart from some bit parts, and video game work, it appears to be the first one he’s gotten in, well, quite some time.

Along with DJ, Stephanie, Kimmy, and Steve, we’ll see more of Uncle Jesse (John Stamos), Danny (Bob Saget), Uncle Joey (Dave Coulier), and Aunt Becky (Lori Laughlin). Though they won’t be series regulars, there will be a big, nostalgic reunion episode — minus Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen’s character, Michelle.

Fuller House debuts on Netflix in 2016.
