The severe storm that dumped close to half a foot of rain on Central Vermont in a matter of hours on July 19, 2015 caused Gunners Brook to overflow its banks, severely impacting the City of Barre. Homes were ruined, roads next to Gunners Brook collapsed due to severe bank erosion, and sediment covered much of the downtown area.
The University of Vermont’s Unmanned Aircraft Systems (UAS) team responded to the disaster, acquiring detailed imagery for two key areas, providing the most comprehensive inventory of the event. This video shows how UAS imagery was used to assess the damage.
