Tom Hardy loads DC Comics’ 100 Bullets in the chamber

Vying for the title of busiest man in Hollywood, Tom Hardy has yet another project on the horizon.

The Mad Max: Fury Road actor will reportedly produce a film adaptation of DC Comics’ 100 Bullets, the tale of the mysterious Agent Graves, who provides those who’ve been wronged with a gun, 100 rounds of untraceable ammunition, and information regarding the identity of the person responsible for their respective predicaments. The original comic was published under the company’s Vertigo imprint, an edgier off-shoot of its parent publisher.

It seems that Hardy is something of a DC fan. After a turn as Bane in Christopher Nolan’s The Dark Knight Rises, the actor was all set to star in Suicide Squad before a scheduling conflict with Alejandro González Iñárritu’s The Revenant waylaid those plans. And now, he’ll produce New Line’s big-screen adaptation of 100 Bullets with the intention of starring as Agent Graves.

We knew Hardy was developing something DC-related back in May, but the project was, at the time, unidentified. Here’s how he described 100 Bullets back then:

“It contains elements of all kinds of stuff. From Ocean’s Eleven, to Batman, you can get all the wrappers out and it would be a big, really cool, technicolor Pulp Fiction. It’s a psychological f—fest, it’s absolutely awesome … It’s something which is much more real world. It could be like Heat, it could be f—ing awesome.”

That’s quite the synopsis.

Insiders tell The Hollywood Reporter that the film will stay true to the comic, but that begs the question: What part of the comic? Brian Azzarello and Eduardo Risso’s crime saga ran for 100 issues and spanned an entire decade (1999-2009). That’s a lot of material to condense into one film, but then again, we’d be naive to think that there’s any chance this won’t turn into a franchise.

Since the project is still in its nascent stages, the release date is still TBD, as are most of the other details of the film. We’ll keep you posted as news breaks.
