The latest Spider-Man, Tom Holland, nabs role in Lost City of Z

Spider-Man isn’t the only upcoming project for Tom Holland. The British actor has just been cast in Lost City of Z, a film that’s currently in production, reports Deadline. The movie also stars Charlie Hunnam (who replaced Benedict Cumberbatch for the role of Colonel Percy Fawcett), Sienna Miller, and Robert Pattinson.

Lost City of Z is based on a book by author David Grann, which was an expansion of an article he wrote on the same topic for The New Yorker. Like the book and the article, the film focuses on British explorer Percy Fawcett (played by Hunnam) who went missing while he and others, including his son, were searching for an ancient city in the Amazon in 1925. Fawcett’s disappearance in turn inspired still more people to venture into the jungle, including Grann.

By signing on for Lost City of Z, Holland has added to his quickly growing list of film credits. His latest film to hit theaters, thriller Backcountry, came out in March, while he also stars in two more films set to release in 2015: In the Heart of the Sea with Chris Hemsworth and Pilgrimage. Holland will make his debut as Peter Parker (aka Spider-Man) in Captain America: Civil War, which is scheduled to open in theaters in May 2016, before taking the lead on the latest Spider-Man reboot, due out in July 2017. He’s been keeping busy, to say the least.

Production on Lost City of Z has already kicked off, starting in Belfast, Northern Ireland. Shooting will move to Colombia in September and continue into October. Brad Pitt and Plan B Entertainment partners Dede Gardner and Jeremy Kleiner are producing the film in collaboration with Anthony Katagas and Dale Johnson. Executive producers are Julie B. May and Glenn Murray of MICA Entertainment, as well as Marc Butan of MadRiver Pictures. MICA is financing.

No release date has been announced for Lost City of Z.
