Activision’s Deadpool game is getting remastered for PS4, Xbox One

Activision’s superhero action game Deadpool is returning for an encore performance later this year in an upgraded re-release for the Xbox One and PlayStation 4, retailer GameStop announced this week.

Deadpool will hit both platforms in a bundle that includes all previously issued DLC and bonus levels.

Deadpool first hit the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, and PCs in 2013. Starring Marvel’s sadistic masked antihero, Deadpool maintained character tradition by featuring dialogue and story elements that frequently broke the fourth wall, directly referencing the gaming medium and the superhero genre at large.

DLC released in the wake of Deadpool‘s launch include two alternate character outfits and two standalone bonus levels that supplement the game’s core campaign. All previously released content will be included as part of Deadpool‘s upcoming revival for the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.

Shortly after its release in 2013, Deadpool disappeared from Xbox Live, the PlayStation Network, and Steam, denying new players the ability to purchase the game digitally. It’s believed that an expired licensing agreement between Activision and Marvel was the culprit behind the sudden and unannounced removal. While players who purchased the game during its brief window of availability could redownload copies at a later date, anyone who didn’t buy Deadpool digitally would have to track down a retail copy instead.

2014 saw the removal of several Marvel-licensed games from console and PC storefronts, including Spider-Man: Friend or Foe, Spider-Man: Web of Shadows, Spider-Man: Shattered Dimensions, Spider-Man: Edge of Time, X-Men: The Official Game, X-Men: Destiny, and X-Men Origins: Wolverine.

Following the announcement of a Deadpool movie, however, Activision’s Deadpool returned to digital storefronts just as suddenly as it had vanished. As of September 2015, Deadpool remains available for purchase across all platforms that hosted its original release.

Deadpool will be priced at $50 when it launches for the Xbox One and PlayStation 4 on Nov. 17.
