Feeling tipsy? These bar glasses won’t spill if you knock into them

We all have that friend who’s clumsier than a romantic comedy heroine. Only instead of breaking a heel and nearly getting run over by a bus, they’re always spilling their drink, your drink, the drinks of the people at the next table over …

A perfect recipe for a meet cute in the movies but not so much in real life. So, Mighty Mug decided to do something about it. The company is known for its un-tip-over-able coffee mugs and decided to apply the same principle to barware. It recently launched a Kickstarter for double old-fashioned/stemless wine glasses, pint glasses, pilsner glasses, and wine glasses.

They’re not actually made of glass, though. The Tritan plastic is BPA-free and dishwasher-safe, as long as you load it in the top rack. The secret to its stability is the “smartgrip technology.” Basically, it traps the air underneath its base when you put it on a flat surface, creating a vacuum. It sticks tight, even if your wildly gesticulating friend knocks it with a waving hand or your cat brushes against it. When you pick it straight up, however, the vacuum is released and you can get a sip of that sweet, sweet liquid.

The resulting glasses aren’t the daintiest barware we’ve seen, but they’d be perfect for a picnic (provided there’s a table, because they won’t work on your blanket-plus-ground configuration) or by the pool. Or on a boat, if you’re a boat person.

The Kickstarter has already surpassed its goal of $5,000, but you can still get a couple glasses — in your choice of shape — for $30. The Mighty Mug team expects to have them all shipped out in time for Christmas. Get them for your boating friends.
