Minimum and recommended specifications for Rainbow Six: Siege unveiled

Although PC gaming does offer a myriad of advantages over its console counterparts, unless you are the kind of gamer that constantly keeps their system up to date with the latest processors, graphics cards and memory, there is one worry that you have to overcome — can my PC run that new game I want? Fortunately, Ubisoft has released some minimum and recommended specifications for Rainbow Six: Siege ahead of its December 1 release date, so you have some time to upgrade your rig if needed.

So, can your PC run it? The following are the minimum requirements.

CPU:	Intel Core i3 560 @ 3.3GHz or AMD Phenom II X4 945 @ 3.0GHz
Graphics:	Nvidia GTX 460 or AMD Radeon HD 5870
Memory:	6GB
Storage Space:	30GB
Operating System:	64bit versions of WIndows 7, 8.1 or 10.
Sound:	DirectX 9.0c compatible sound chip

Most people who have updated their gaming system in the past few years will have no problem handling the above, especially since the graphics cards were released in 2009 (AMD) and 2010 (Nvidia).

The recommended specifications are much closer to where you want to be for any game, as the minimum specifications rarely give you enough grunt with modern titles to see them as they were intended. Here’s what you’ll need to not just run the game, but enjoy it.

CPU:	Intel Core i5 2500k @ 3.3GHz or better, or AMD FX-8210 @ 3.1GHz or better
Graphics:	Nvidia GTX 670 or better, or Radeon HD 7970 with at least 2GB of GDDR5 or better.
Memory:	8GB
Storage Space:	47GB
Operating System:	64bit versions of Windows 7, 8.1 or 10
Sound:	Direct 9.0c compatible sound chip with a 5.1 compatible driver

Those are a little beefier, but again there is nothing there that is too hectic for a lot of gamers. However, according to Steam’s Hardware Survey only about a third of all gamers can match the 2GB recommendation for VRAM, so that may be a limiting factor for many.

Of course, thanks to this being a PC version of the game, chances are graphical settings can be tweaked to your system’s strengths, allowing those with decent GPUs but lacking in video memory to push other aspects of their game’s visuals without impacting performance too much.

For extra clarification on which graphics cards the new Rainbow Six game supports, Ubisoft released the following list:

NVIDIA: GeForce GTX460 or better, GTX560 or better, GTX650 or better, GTX750 or better, or any card from the GT900, and Titan Series.
AMD: Radeon HD5870 or better, HD6870 or better, HD7770 or better, R7 260X or better, or any card from the R-300 series, and Fury X.

While some laptop GPUs may also work with the game, they are not officially supported. Future chipsets may also be supported.
