Creed’s Michael B. Jordan aims to create his own role by co-writing comic book series

Simply starring in comic book-based films apparently isn’t enough of a challenge for Michael B. Jordan. The actor is joining forces with writer Nathan Edmonson to co-write a new action spy comic series called North, reports THR. The goal is to later bring the story to screen in the future, with Jordan starring in the film version.

North, which will be illustrated by Denys Cowan and Bill Sienkiewicz, will center on a soldier whose mind is modified after being recruited to join a top-secret organization. The group will turn on him, but they’ll find he becomes a bigger threat than they imagined. The basic plot has elements that we’ve seen before, but it could certainly be done in an interesting way.

The project came about after the new writing duo met at Golden Apple, a comic shop in Los Angeles, and formed a friendship. Teaming up makes a lot of sense, given that Edmonson has worked on the likes of Marvel’s The Punisher and Black Widow, as well as created Who Is Jake Ellis? and The Activity, both of which are currently in development. Plus, Jordan is a comic book fan and played Johnny Storm in 2015’s Fantastic Four.

With Jordan’s career quickly gaining momentum, he’s a good bet to star in the potential film adaptation. His latest movie, Creed, in which he stars alongside Sylvester Stallone, certainly upped his star power. (The film has grossed $80 so far, according to Box Office Mojo at the time of publishing.) He’s also proven his versatility, starring in the 2014 comedy That Awkward Moment, the 2013 drama Fruitvale Station, the 2012 superhero thriller Chronicle, and more.

Edmonson and Jordan are striking while the iron is hot, with North currently set to be published by Dark Horse comics in 2016.
