Pee-wee’s Big Holiday is almost here: Netflix announces premiere date with new teaser

Pee-wee Herman is ready to launch on Netflix. The streaming service has finally announced the premiere date for Pee-wee’s Big Holiday, using a new teaser for the comedy film to unveil the big day.

In the teaser, we see how an apparently normal morning for Pee-wee (played by Paul Reubens) kicks off as he is literally launched out of bed and out of the house with minimal effort on his part thanks to a useful contraption. Most of the trailer takes place in (and on) his house, but we do also get to see him driving in his car and admiring a traffic light. Based on the teaser, it’s the same Pee-wee fans know and love. All those strange inventions and delighted facial expressions will bring you back to your childhood.

The movie will follow Pee-wee on what’s described as his “first-ever holiday,” inspired by a meeting with an enigmatic stranger. Netflix also calls it an “epic story of friendship and destiny.” The teaser doesn’t show much of the story line, but it does remind Pee-wee Herman fans of what they loved about both the movies and character.

Reubens introduced Pee-wee in the early 1980s, starting a stage show with the character. In the decades since, he’s been a recognizable character in both film and TV, but it’s been over 30 years now since the release of his last feature-length film, Pee-wee’s Big Adventure, directed by Tim Burton. Reubens was heavily involved in the creative process, writing the script with Paul Rust (Love, Arrested Development) and executive producing with Judd Apatow (Bridesmaids). John Lee (Wonder Showzen) directed the movie, which also stars Joe Manganiello, Jessica Pohly, Alia Shawkat, and Stephanie Beatriz.

Pee-wee’s Big Holiday will be available on Netflix starting on March 18.
