Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain‘s multiplayer mode Metal Gear Online is now up and running on PC platforms via Steam following an extended beta testing phase, publisher Konami announced today.
The Steam release follows up on Metal Gear Online‘s launch for console platforms last year.

“The Beta has officially concluded and the game is now available for launch,” Konami community manager Robert Peeler confirmed. “We took in a lot of feedback and made a few key adjustments. After some initial hiccups we’re going forward guns at the ready.”
Peeler assures that development of the PC version of Metal Gear Online will continue, and players can expect to see new features introduced throughout the coming months.
“Just like the previously released console versions of MGO, we’ll be integrating new updates to the game to improve the experience and add content,” Peeler said. “Building the future and keeping MGO alive are one and the same thing.”
The console versions of Metal Gear Online saw multiple bug fixes and gameplay tweaks as part of a comprehensive update released in November. The current PC version of Metal Gear Online incorporates all of the changes introduced in last year’s console patch.
Metal Gear Online is a team-based third-person shooter featuring weapons, items, and stealth mechanics plucked from the core Metal Gear Solid V campaign. Players can also build and fortify Forward Operating Bases and fend off invading opponents as part of Metal Gear Solid V‘s online component. Development of Metal Gear Online is now managed by an internal Konami team in Japan, following last year’s closure of creator Kojima Productions Los Angeles.
Players who join a Metal Gear Online match between January 19th and January 26th will receive 3,000 Gear Points, which can be used to outfit characters with unique clothing and color customization options. Players normally receive 50 points upon a daily login, with 100 points awarded for logging in on Wednesdays.
