BtS podcast: DC reshoots Suicide Squad, Danny McBride’s Vice Principal, and more

Each week, DT’s newest show, Between the Streams, is your guide to all of the hottest, most important, and (of course) dumbest new developments in streaming and entertainment to recap the week that was.

This week we discuss my experience with the astonishingly dumb superhero flick Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, Suicide Squad’s multi-million dollar reshoots designed to make the movie more “fun,” a hilarious new HBO series about vice principals from Danny McBride, and much more.

After dragging Batman v Superman through the critical mud last week following its 29 percent Rotten Tomatoes score, I decided it was only fair to see the film for myself. (Spoiler alert) — the critics weren’t wrong, it definitely sucked, and we talk all about how and why in this week’s show.

In related news, Warner Bros. has obviously seen the writing on the wall over its penchant for exposing only the most depressing corners of DC’s colorful comic universe, and has decided to go ahead with expensive reshoots for its new Suicide Squad film. The movie about supervillians, which includes mega-stars Margot Robbie and Will Smith, has undergone its fair share of problems, including reports that it was so dark Warner had to bring a therapist on set for the actors. But its most recent trailer showed a light and comical side, and viewers responded with 15 million more views than the Batman v Superman trailer on YouTube.

It’s clear people want more fun in their DC movies, so Warner has decided to spend millions of dollars in reshoots to expand on the fun parts of its latest venture.

Also this week, Danny McBride’s ridiculous new show from HBO about an insane pair of high school vice principals revealed its new trailer, and it looks hilarious. McBride seems like a perfect fit as the disciplinarian we all loved to hate in our late teens, and Walter Goggins looks to be an equally awful rival as the two proceed to destroy everything in sight in a quest to be the new principal of their school.

We also discuss William Shatner’s crazy $170 million paternity lawsuit, Spotify’s ridiculous Falkor commercial, our highlights of the week, and so much more, so follow us above, or grab the podcast and take us along.
