We still have months to wait before Marvel’s Doctor Strange arrives in theaters, but in the meantime, we’ve been gifted a small new glimpse at the film. Director Scott Derrickson was kind enough to unveil the first poster today via a tweet. Not surprisingly, the movie’s titular hero himself, played by Benedict Cumberbatch, is featured in the image.
While this isn’t the first official photo of Cumberbatch as the surgeon-turned-superhero, it does literally show another side of him. The poster shows Doctor Strange from the back as he stands in front of a huge stylized window. Interestingly, it’s the window that draws the eye rather than the hero.

Fans of the comics will recognize the architectural feature. As THR points out, it’s modeled after one found in the comic book character’s Sanctum Sanctorum headquarters, which was designed by Doctor Strange co-creator Steve Ditko. Unfortunately, Derrickson didn’t delve into the poster’s meaning; instead, he kept his tweet short and sweet, simply sharing that this image is, indeed, the first poster.

The film centers on Dr. Stephen Strange, a brilliant surgeon who sets off around the world after his career is cut short. He ends up being taken under the wing of a sorcerer, who trains him to fight evil. Along with Cumberbatch, the flick stars Benedict Wong, Rachel McAdams, Tilda Swinton, Chiwetel Ejiofor, Michael Stuhlbarg, and Mads Mikkelsen.
In addition to today’s poster, fans will soon get to see the first Doctor Strange trailer. Cumberbatch is set to appear on Jimmy Kimmel Live! tonight and will give viewers the first look. It’ll have to be enough to tide us over as we wait for Doctor Strange to hit theaters on November 4.
