The next Battlefield game will be called Battlefield 1, and will come out on Xbox One, PS4, and PC on October 21, Electronic Arts announced during a live-stream Friday.
The presentation, which included the first trailer of the game, showed images of heavy artillery, vehicles — including biplanes, a battleship, horses, and a giant zeppelin — and the iconic trenches of the WWI era. In addition to the series’ standard weapons — pistols, shotguns, and sniper rifles — the game will feature “many melee weapons,” such as a spiky mace shown in the trailer, each with its own feel. Its level locales will include Italy, France and Arabia. The game will feature 64-player multiplayer matches.

The announcement follows a pair of leaks earlier in the day, which revealed a promotional image and the game’s name. The image initially showed up on the Xbox One store, followed by photos of posters and promotional materials. Though fans likely assumed there would be a new Battlefield game coming out this year, EA first announced that fact during its annual financial call in January.
According to the trailer, the game will be available on PC and Xbox One through EA Access “first,” though EA did not specify an exact date. There’s also a collector’s edition set, called the “early enlister” edition, coming out October 18, three days before the standard edition. According to IGN, The “Early Enlister” collector’s set will also come with extra cosmetic downloadable content for weapons, characters, and vehicles, including the “Red Baron Pack,” the “Lawrence of Arabia Pack,” and the “Harlem Hellfighter Pack.”
Representitives from DICE and EA said they will release more detailed information about the game at a later date, potentially at EA’s E3-adjacent fan convention, EA Play, in June.
