Braven offers portable sound that can take a beating with its new Bluetooth speaker

Braven’s entire range of Bluetooth speakers is quite popular, and for good reason, but the company might be best known for its rugged models. Earlier this year, the company unveiled the monster BRV-XXL, and now it is focusing more on easy portability with a next-generation version of one of its most well-known speakers.

The Braven BRV-1M takes the company’s older BRV-1 model and makes it even more appealing to outdoor enthusiasts. In addition to the tie-down bars that allowed the original to be strapped to nearly anything, the BRV-1M now also includes an Action Mount accessory in the box that is compatible with GoPro and other mounting systems.

“With an unprecedented amount of power and sound, the BRV-1M is the perfect compact, rugged speaker and elevates our outdoor BRV-series to another level,” Braven chief executive Andy Fathollahi said in a statement. “Whether it is backcountry skiing, snowboarding, or rock climbing, the BRV-1M is always ready for the next adventure.”

The BRV-1M is IPX7-rated waterproof and impact resistant, with a new quick-release cap system that protects the ports from water and dirt. These include a USB port to allow the speaker’s 2,200 mAh battery to double as a charger for users’ mobile devices, and a 3.5mm jack to allow for wired connectivity.

A battery-level indicator is built-in to show just how much juice is left, though the company says that the speaker allows for up to 12 hours of playback, so there shouldn’t be a need to watch it too carefully. If you suddenly find yourself needing to take a call in the wild, the BRV-1M offers built-in speakerphone functionality.

The Braven BRV-1M sells for $100, and is available in black at REI retail locations. For those looking for more color, black/red and gray/black combinations are also available direct from the Braven website.
