Tadeusz Kościuszko (2/1746 – 10/15/1817) was a Polish-Lithuanian military hero who fought as a officer in the American Revolutionary War, a major general in the Polish-Russian War of 1792. He was also a close friend of Thomas Jefferson.
The current Merechevschina is a reproduction of the original which was burned down by Soviet partisans in 1942. The structure now serves as a Kościuszko museum.
