Marvel is always a major presence at Comic-Con, but with busy schedules and travel demands, you never know who will make it out to San Diego for the big show. According to ComingSoon, however, at least two big-time directors will likely be in attendance.
Doctor Strange director Scott Derrickson and Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 helmer James Gunn recently took to Twitter to effectively RSVP for the event. The former kicked things off with this tweet:
Will I be at Comic Con this year? Here’s a hint… http://pic.twitter.com/ovawpnsLsj
— Scott Derrickson (@scottderrickson) June 10, 2016
And the latter replied thusly:
Really? You’ll be so close. I might have to come see you. https://t.co/LbqvjJ46Vg
— James Gunn (@JamesGunn) June 10, 2016
It’s nice to see these two having some fun with fans, and it also helps that both films are already hotly anticipated.

Production on Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 is expected to wrap this week, and some are already speculating that we could see the first footage from the film at Comic-Con. That said, there’s been nothing official to suggest that that will be the case and we only just found out that Gunn will be attending. One step at a time, people.
As for Doctor Strange, we’ve already seen pictures, posters, trailers, etc., so Derrickson’s appearance probably won’t come along with anything too revelatory.
That said, there are plenty of other Marvel properties in the mix, and you can expect plenty of MCU-related news to emerge from the event. Chief on our mind is the intriguing Thor: Ragnarok, which will reportedly start production before the event. Featuring the titular God of Thunder and everyone’s favorite gamma ray-laden green guy, Mark Ruffalo (The Hulk) recently described the film as an “intergalactic buddy road movie.”
Sounds like a trip worth taking to us.
Doctor Strange hits theaters November 4, but fans will have to wait until May 5, 2017, for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2. As for Comic-Con San Diego, the event will take place at the San Diego Convention Center and will run from July 21-24.
