The latest cast addition to ‘Spider-Man: Homecoming’ is a ‘Better Call Saul’ star

There has been a recent flurry of casting for Spider-Man: Homecoming, and there is no lack of talent among the group. The latest addition to the upcoming Sony and Marvel collaboration is Michael Mando, reports THR, who stars in AMC’s Breaking Bad spinoff, Better Call Saul.

Not surprisingly, information about Mando’s role in the superhero flick is being kept secret, and therefore, we don’t know yet whether he’ll try to support or thwart Spider-Man  (played by Tom Holland). However, we do know that Mando has played the villain well in the past. As Vic on BBC’s Orphan Black, for example, he was less than kind, to say the least. Not only that, fans of Ubisoft’s videogame Far Cry 3 can vouch for his ability to add conflict, as he demonstrated as the character Vaas Montenegro.

Homecoming began shooting in Atlanta this week, so Mando should be hard at work soon, if he is not already. With his new role — whatever it may be — he joins a solid group. The cast also includes the likes of Michael Keaton, Marisa Tomei, Robert Downey Jr., and actors-slash-musicians Donald Glover and Zendaya.

The film adds another high-profile project to Mando’s resume. Although there have been multiple Spider-Man reboots in recent years, Homecoming is particularly exciting given its strong tie-in to the rest of the MCU. Holland made his debut as his web-slinging character in Captain America: Civil War, and Downey Jr. joins Homecoming as Tony Stark and his superhero alter-ego, Iron Man.

The story centers on a high-school-aged Peter Parker (Holland), who doubles as Spider-Man. Based on the comics created by Stan Lee and Steve Ditko, the screenplay was written by John Francis Daley and Jonathan M. Goldstein. Jon Watts helms the film. Spider-Man: Homecoming is set to open on July 7, 2017.
