These ninja won’t be silent: Chan, Armisen among voice cast of ‘Lego Ninjago’ movie

Warner Bros. has a lot in store for Lego-loving movie fans in the coming years, not least of which is the Lego Ninjago movie. Like the video games and TV series before it, the movie will feature a group of teenage ninjas, but this time around, they’ll get new voices. During Licensing Expo 2016, the voice cast was revealed via a handout, according to Brickset, and the actors on the list include the likes of Jackie Chan, Fred Armisen, and Dave Franco.

Chan is listed as playing Master Wu, the six young martial artists’ instructor. Meanwhile, Franco is listed as Lloyd and Armisen as Cole. The rest of the group will be voiced by Michael Peña (Kai), Abbi Jacobson (Nya), Kumail Ninjiani (Jay), and Zach Woods (Zane).

The document Brickset got its hands on also shared the synopsis of the movie, and key plot elements will be familiar to those already familiar with Lego Ninjago: “Ninjago is the story of six young ninja tasked with defending their island home, called Ninjago. By night, they’re gifted warriors, using their skills and awesome fleet of vehicles to fight villains and monsters. By day, they’re ordinary teens struggling against their greatest enemy: high school.”

The voice cast is new to the movie, as the video games and TV series featured different actors. While some fans may be disappointed about the change, it should be hard to be too upset about a group that includes martial arts movie maven Chan alongside hilarious comedic actors. Plus, the group does have Lego experience: Franco voiced Wally in The Lego Movie and Peña provided the voice of Luis in the video game Lego Marvel’s Avengers.

Lego Ninjago is scheduled to hit theaters on September 22, 2017.
