Samsung lays an Intel-powered golden egg with the shiny Galaxy TabPro S 2-in-1

In addition to finally officially revealing its cylinder-shaped “ArtPC” Pulse desktop, Samsung also added a new product to its 2-in-1 lineup: the Galaxy TabPro S Gold Edition. It comes with a detachable keyboard featuring the same stunning gold finish that shines on the main “tablet” body, making this a great-looking product for business pros and consumers alike. It weighs only 1.53 pounds and measures just 0.25 inches (without the keyboard) as well, making this device super portable.

Note that the listed Intel processor in the chart is a guess on our part. Samsung says the unit comes with a sixth-generation “Skylake” Intel Core M processor clocked up to 2.2GHz, whereas the product listing on Best Buy shows a base clock speed of 900MHz. Both numbers match the Core M3 unit that Intel shipped in the third quarter of 2015.

Samsung notes that this device is the only Windows 10 unit on the market with a Super AMOLED screen. This tech was originally introduced by Samsung in 2010, which slaps on a 0.001mm-thin touch sensor over an AMOLED display. The actual Active Matrix OLED technology itself consists of an active matrix backplane used in standard thin film transistor (TFT) displays, and an OLED panel.

Simply put, AMOLED provides a crisper, more vibrant image over the standard screen due to the way each pixel is charged up and controlled. Each pixel consists of red, blue, and green clusters of supersmall LEDs that produce light with the assistance of a film made out of organic material. These LEDs can be switched off and brightened, allowing pixels to produce all shades of colors between total black to total white.

“They’ll experience brilliant, true-to-life colors and more precise details that showcase movies and content the way they were meant to be seen. From presentations and emails to games and social media, everything looks its best thanks to the rich colors and crisp details,” Samsung said on Friday.

As for the included keyboard, it comes with an integrated touchpad and a Pogo pin connector, the latter of which connects the peripheral to the main body without the need for pairing or charging it separately. The keyboard also provides a flexible hinge so that users can position the screen accordingly.

Finally, the device includes a USB 3.1 Type-C port for charging. This port also works with the company’s optional multiport accessory. Just connect the two, and customers have an additional HDMI port for outputting the Windows 10 Home experience to a larger display. The accessory also includes one USB Type-A port for external device support, and a USB Type-C port to keep the tablet charged while the main unit’s port is in use.

Of course, the new Galaxy TabPro S Gold Edition 2-in-1 supports Samsung Flow, which connects to a Samsung phone and forwards text messages, phone-based notifications, and incoming calls. It also supports the TabPro Pen, which is sold separately for $50.

The Galaxy TabPro S Gold Edition is available now in the United States through Samsung, and at participating retailers like Best Buy for $1,000.
