Extruder Stepper Motor Rotation Visualiser / Visualizer – Scotland Flag / Scottish Saltire

large_preview_20200306_152417.jpg

I wanted to add a rotation visualiser to my Prusa MK3S printers, but didn’t fancy any of the designs already out there. As a proud and patriotic Scotsman, I thought I’d fly the flag for my country whilst 3D printing!

Make sure that you use PETG so that the plastic doesn’t soften due to the stepper motor heat. Use superglue to stick neodymium magnets to the visualiser, using sandpaper to rough up the mating faces first.

I recommend that you use 8mm x 3mm magnets. You may get away with one magent, but clearance can be tight, so I often find that two magnets glued in a stack works well…or you could use 8mm x 6mm magnets and save on glue.

Prusa Slicer or Prusa’s Colour Print tool are the easiest way to switch colours. For those methods, assumimg you’re using 0.1mm layers, add in the following colour change points:

Layer 1: Black

First change: Layer 13 / 1.40mm : White

Second change: Layer 16 / 1.70mm : Azure Blue

Third change: Layer 21 / 2.20mm : Black

Happy printing!
