This 9.7-Liter, GM LS-Based V12 Was Built Out Of A V8, Has Four Turbochargers

Australia is home to some wild cars and engines and the following LS-based V12 built by Race Cast Engineering and running a Haltech ECU is one of the most phenomenal.

Race Cast Engineering has quite a lot of experience taking LS V8 engines and using 3D sand printing technologies to turn them into V12s. With this particular engine, the addition of four new cylinders means the engine displaces an insane 9.7-liters or 592 cubic inches in the old money.

The engine features an all-aluminum cast block as well as custom heads, a custom intake, and a bespoke camshaft and crankshaft. Remarkably, many top and bottom-end components of the engine remain off-the-shelf GM parts, including the pistons, rings, and rods.

When running a Haltech ECU, this engine was dyno’d at a cool 700hp while in its naturally-aspirated form. However, Haltech wanted more performance and acquired four Garrett GT3582R turbochargers and set about fitting them. While these turbos are quite small compared to some on the market, each works with the exhaust gases of just three cylinders and roughly 2.5-liters of displacement, making them the perfect tool for the job.

The engine has yet to be put through its paces on the dyno and currently sits on an engine stand but it is fully functional. It seems highly likely it will churn out more than 1,000 hp when put to the test and running 7 psi of boost.
