skull money box

skull-money-box

In order for the skull to fit on the print bed of my 3D printer, I had to reduce the original STL a bit. The skull now has the dimensions 115 mm x 171 mm x 130 mm on the print bed, so it is not very small, which led to a print time of 12 hours.

I printed the stone with no filling. Next to the cap there is a hole that can be drilled with 4 mm. With the funnel closed, you can fill the inside of the stone with quartz glass sand (01.-0.3 mm), as used in aquaristics. Then seal the hole with glue. This increases the weight of the stone and therefore its stability considerably. Furthermore, the stone is not easily dragged by animals and humans. Of course, you can also leave the filling hole closed and use the stone as usual, for example. Print 20% filler.

In the area of the facial bones there are some protrusions inwards, a filling should be printed here (for example, 15%). I use the PrusaSlicer, there it is done with “modifier”, which actually works very quickly and easily. The attached images show how it looks with me. Below and above I also printed fillings with a height of 10 mm (40%).

The cheekbones form overhangs on the outside, the corresponding support reinforcements must be provided here. How I did that is also shown in a picture.

It was printed with a

0% filling density (see text)

Layer height of 0.2 mm

4 vertical contours

4 horizontal contours

Printing speed of 80 mm / s.

Support see text

No support for the cap and funnel is required.
