I just played the craziest game of my life. – August 3, 2022 at 11:48PM

So, I’m playing pure Paladin vs a Deathrattle Druid, typical stuff in standard right now.

The game plays out as normal, back and forth. We’re just making our way towards our win conditions. Eventually I play The Countess and get my three Invitations. I use them when I have the mana in between summoning and buffing my cheap minions. He’s been able to ramp pretty well and summon some big stats that I have to keep using spells to mitigate.

I play my hero card Cariel. This lets me tank some heavy hits from his cheated out 8/8s thanks to my weapon, which reduces damage taken to half. My opponent then plays his hero card, Guff, and floods his board with more big Deathrattles. The very next turn I use an Invitation, I get offered Murozond the Infinite. Perfect timing, let’s get some shenanigans going.

I play my (0) mana Murozond. Now I’m Guff with Cariel’s weapon.

The game keeps progressing. He’s summoning a lot of whelps and running them into my taunts, so I know he has a Sire Denathrius in his hand. I use my other two invitations. I don’t remember what I had in my second one, but on my third and final invitation, I get a (0) mana Tess Greymane. Because I’m a Druid now, this will replay my Paladin cards. Perfect, more chaos.

I make the pick and play her immediately. She turns me back into Cariel, flooding my board with buffed paladin minions and randomly casting my two invitations, She gives me Vanessa VanCleef, Najak Hexxen. I don’t think much of them and focus on my crazy big board, planning my kill on my next turn.

However, with a big swing turn like that, my opponent has to make some big plays to deal with my board.

He plays Brann Bronzebeard.

Uh-oh. He has the combo.

He throws down his Sire Denathrius. It’s infused to deal 34 damage. With Brann, that’s 68 damage. I’m at full health with a little armor, but that’s not enough to save me. I’m done.

My whole board of crazy big minions is wiped with the first Battlecry. I mentally prepare myself to queue up for the next game.

The second Battlecry goes off and…I don’t die?

And then it hits me. I still have Cariel’s weapon from the first time I played her. The first Battlecry barely scratched me because of my wide board. The second Battlecry was cut in half. I have 20ish life left, but I’m alive.

He ends his turn.

With my board clear, all the pieces fall into place.

I see my out.

First, I use my (0) mana Najak to steal his Brann.

With her Combo activated, I use my (0) mana Vanessa to add a copy of the last card he played to my hand.

I get my own 34x infused Sire Denathrius added to my hand.

With 10/10 mana remaining, I play his exact combo he just tried on me the turn before and win the game.

Truly the luckiest series of random chances of my life. I messaged the guy after the fact and he was just as bewildered as I was. And that was that.
