Caliper Toggle Switch Mod – Slightly tweaked (larger)

large_preview_20200116_160823.jpg

This design is brilliant, but I was having some issues with the fit in my particular caliper.

Changes made:

  • Switch part made thicker (to help prevent it from getting lodged between the plastic body of the caliper and the circuit board)
  • Battery interrupt blade made longer (it sometimes didn’t completely cover the terminal in my calipers)
  • Removed the angled “ramp” part from the blade. I’m assuming this was intended to provide strength and perhaps a little extra tension for the “off” mode of the switch, but I found the switch kept getting hung up on this when I tried to toggle it off. I suspect it might be a difference between the stock battery cover and the 3d printed one. The stock one may be putting more downward tension on the battery, which in turn makes the tolerance for the blade movement much tighter.

Thanks PartayPat for the original design, I’ll be printing several of these to keep in my portable tool bag to hand out to anyone I see with a digital caliper. I’m shocked that no manufacturer has designed a caliper with a physical switch yet, battery life is the #1 complaint with these things.
