Did you know that it was George Lucas’s idea to release Star Wars on Memorial Day weekend back in 1977? The two biggest weekends for movies were Christmas and the Fourth of July. Nobody opened on Memorial Day because kids weren’t out of school yet. But George chose that weekend for that exact reason, because he wanted kids to see the movie and then talk about it at school. George said people thought he was out of his mind, but his strategy paid off!
