Older skins should be available in the shop for gold more often. – January 27, 2023 at 08:41PM

With the Three Kingdoms bundle being available with gold now it really got me thinking how much potential I feel like hearthstone is wasting in terms of maximizing this asset. Hearthstone over the past year or so has been pumping out new skins and offers like crazy and putting them in the shop but how much revenue is this actually making for them? A lot of the newer skins are for pretty niche audiences or just out right look ugly.

With Blizzard trying their best to add as much monetization/new revenue streams to the game as possible why not add the best gold sink available? Cosmetics are one of the very few things in gaming that makes the game more expensive that players are okay with, because it’s a choice. Nobody wants to throw their gold away doing heroic brawliseum, but I’d happily drop 1k gold on Annhylde, Lady Vashj, N’zoth, etc. Blizzard seems to think just because these skins are old that they aren’t worth offering anymore.

It’s a win win for both players who want to access older content they missed out on and a win for Blizzard trying to get gold out of the game. The only people who could be upset about this change is the people that bought the skins a long time ago out of FOMO. Personally I think a good system would be when the set the skin came out for rotates to wild it’d be fine to put them in the shop. Paying for a skin when it comes out would effectively save you 1k gold in the future as well as giving you instant access to a portrait for 2+ YEARS. The only exception I’d say would maybe be the mega bundle skins.
